Are those secret, confidential papers in your pants, jacket and portfolio, or are you just happy...(Website Addition)

Sandy Berger, former President Clinton's national security aide was caught, not with his pants down, but his pants stuffed--with top-secret handwritten notes that he "inadvertently" took from the National Archives. These notes, in addition to copies of highly confidential terrorism memos were found at his home and office. He took these documents while he was preparing for the Sept. 11 commission. While some Democrats are trying to play it down, saying that it was "innocent" and Berger saying, "to my knowledge, every document requested by the commission from the Clinton administration was produced."

Sandy Berger

Be that as it may, it is clear that Berger took handwritten notes from these memos and knowingly, not inadvertently, took them from the Archives, which is against policy--
Berger and his lawyer said Monday night he knowingly removed the handwritten notes by placing them in his jacket and pants, and also inadvertently took copies of actual classified documents in a leather portfolio.

Here is another interesting story concerning "disappearing documents"--
Breuer said the Archives staff first raised concerns with Berger during an Oct. 2 review of documents that at least one copy of the post-millennium report he had reviewed earlier was missing. Berger was given a second copy that day, Breuer said.

Officials familiar with the investigation said Archive staff specially marked the documents and when the new copy and others disappeared, Archive officials called Clinton attorney Bruce Lindsey to raise concerns.

I think that this is something more than "innocent" when copies of documents disappear, are replaced, and then disappear again.

I do not believe, however, that Berger has destroyed any documents or withheld any from the Commission. What we are dealing with here is the fact that very confidential information is being leaked purposefully. Some believe that since Sandy Berger was an unofficial advisor to John Kerry, that perhaps he could have been giving facts to Kerry which he would otherwise not have access to.

Of course, some people are defending Berger.

There are also other versions of the story which can be found here and here.

Read all of them.

UPDATE: Here's something funny, I guess--Clinton is "laughing" about the Berger investigation. I can find nothing humorous about this situation, other than the fact that the Democrats are playing this down so much. Berger has admitted that he did sneak out handwritten notes. Joe Lockhart, Clinton's former press secretary had this to say:
There's absolutely no evidence that (Berger) made anything more than an honest mistake. No amount of character assassination can change that.

Like I said before, Berger CONFESSED. When someone confesses to knowingly and purposefully doing something, it CANNOT be considered any kind of honest mistake.

Give me a break.
